I've been busy finishing things too...<br />
Monday was an afternoon working on my little quilts ready for Ballaraat quilter's exhibition in November. No pictures as yet. The rest of the week had me catching up with various friends while having coffee, and crocheting. Culminating in a workshop with Karen Prior at Button Heaven in Buninyong today.<br />

This is the result.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjZci9yu04iHj4wBVcc5ZHiUq2svzM_5I_f_fdmNiV3430SvD0435zRnbPADUZ8bZUioP4ADB_gVe7xvDJkzMS2mJfGEXqicDAgK5aOEQhyphenhyphen6xbu6quw_ljmg16Gq_MObjVoLI_ysfonCU/s1600/july+2013+042.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjZci9yu04iHj4wBVcc5ZHiUq2svzM_5I_f_fdmNiV3430SvD0435zRnbPADUZ8bZUioP4ADB_gVe7xvDJkzMS2mJfGEXqicDAgK5aOEQhyphenhyphen6xbu6quw_ljmg16Gq_MObjVoLI_ysfonCU/s320/july+2013+042.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
The top scarf is the pattern I learnt in class with Karen of Sew Well Maide. Underneath is the first scarf I started in class, and then realised that I was "doing my own thing!" I had alot to learn about reading crochet patterns. I ended up finishing both, but used a different edging on the "creative " scarf.<br />
Love the coral pink colour.<br />

This morning I thought I would have to tell you that I only managed to applique 2 little pears, and one bird to my Christmas tree block, but with some work today I added 11 more leaves. So I am aiming to finish putting all of the leaves onto this block this upcoming week.<br />
I did buy backing and binding fabric for my little quilt, and it is basted and I have even made a start hand quilting. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

But, in doing this I uncovered another UFO, my hand quilting warm up quilt!<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhh8l7voHFxN7HZUEEtsGaM45DCysVnYhyphenhyphenVYUDctQUCtXkiRkaZanEFHdxmp-ZxXm24oMHU1HEUiimhtYvGmrDuyGOV7aeJWXa7y0L4pQ7c5q8oZTAvyCa5QMmxOoRtoDbCa2mxIfM5Ru0/s1600/jan+2013+028.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhh8l7voHFxN7HZUEEtsGaM45DCysVnYhyphenhyphenVYUDctQUCtXkiRkaZanEFHdxmp-ZxXm24oMHU1HEUiimhtYvGmrDuyGOV7aeJWXa7y0L4pQ7c5q8oZTAvyCa5QMmxOoRtoDbCa2mxIfM5Ru0/s320/jan+2013+028.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I managed to get the center of my TB Lovers quilt together with its cornerstone and sashing, and have added the top and bottom of the first border. I will have that first border on by next Thursday. I will decide on the size of the final border, when I dig out my border quilting stencils and see which looks the best! As for my scrap quilt, I have made little progress, but little bits are adding up on this quilt.<br /><br />

The fat 1/8ths are for my friend. The cream floral is the backing for my little quilt top, along with the tiny green stripe for its binding. The blue fabric is for an upcoming project ....once I have finished something!<br />
<br />
So, onto my stitching. Yesterday, my Fool's Gold 3 package arrived. This is the third round and the block I am working on is for Ruby. Here is what I have done so far.....I have to have the block finished on Monday, so that I can post it on Tuesday the 15th.<br />

<br />
I have chosen 4 UFO's to work on this month.<br />
<br />
First is The Christmas Tree quilt, designed by Maria Cook as a BOM to improve applique skills<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0lGYh8e-05gjO7i_z7p78Ml_HYnA-AhCcch4eyorAgXgaXkRon3NOZOiqhfjBU4yEqH-Dd8mxa6N2fIK6NF0LD54Nt78jshxPDB8M2BuV0hVyznhyphenhyphenvIberTW2ufBzIaYSoH4L2NnFql0/s1600/jan+2013+005.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0lGYh8e-05gjO7i_z7p78Ml_HYnA-AhCcch4eyorAgXgaXkRon3NOZOiqhfjBU4yEqH-Dd8mxa6N2fIK6NF0LD54Nt78jshxPDB8M2BuV0hVyznhyphenhyphenvIberTW2ufBzIaYSoH4L2NnFql0/s320/jan+2013+005.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I have done 4 or 5 blocks so far and I am working on this one at the moment. <br />
I plan to add 7 elements this week, mainly leaves.<br />
<br />
Then I have our exhibition this year and I must finish this project for that. Nothing like having a deadline is there! I want to exhibit the other 3 year long project I've been working towards as well. I fell in love with this book....<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9s4y8U67-bfoC4wBm_XaXNgJuRTSCBHAvNA15_F14-AGTOLZchh2GQpmoZw0YJL-kZYaDJz_E06-q2_nulVJJ1hA495HqWSvt00SyzrQFNh_7FGEi_mebxO2QU7xSlfSBasW8Yw7nh0Y/s1600/jan+2013+010.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9s4y8U67-bfoC4wBm_XaXNgJuRTSCBHAvNA15_F14-AGTOLZchh2GQpmoZw0YJL-kZYaDJz_E06-q2_nulVJJ1hA495HqWSvt00SyzrQFNh_7FGEi_mebxO2QU7xSlfSBasW8Yw7nh0Y/s320/jan+2013+010.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
and I have made some of the dolls quilt tops and they are ready to quilt. I have been dithering over the backing fabric. At first I wanted to have the same backing fabric for each quilt and the project got stalled while I tried to find "the perfect fabric". Now I just will choose something I like that will hide my hand quilting stitches! I want to buy the fabric this upcoming week, and get the quilt basted by next week. This is the first little quilt top.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuwL27Nfzsta56R1r3X-OsFecYMM_nYj-4VOVPNKnjNUemXW4RvBr53ikvHE-4tS8TZgEcCt1_0ruzW1dR5mp1t25bVzep7XtryFGkg2MzJ7GyQlsEco8mt53V7Vcx6tCnkO2DKAp-1GY/s1600/jan+2013+008.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuwL27Nfzsta56R1r3X-OsFecYMM_nYj-4VOVPNKnjNUemXW4RvBr53ikvHE-4tS8TZgEcCt1_0ruzW1dR5mp1t25bVzep7XtryFGkg2MzJ7GyQlsEco8mt53V7Vcx6tCnkO2DKAp-1GY/s320/jan+2013+008.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
So those are the smaller projects....on to the bigger ones.<br />
<br />
I won these blocks as part of my internet group TBLovers and have started working on putting them together.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiStXkF1lAa3XJscfHpLuzAtxZG_dtDASU4tadhG3LhfeFCChK89oB7d4SnGwsBd0YKxlexWgxFKbBhw2XGuGMfoI48gVd0xRXuvjePafgeHBQOqBU9rnk11Q7RaNL3l9_dxd8KoNP5Q4w/s1600/jan+2013+001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiStXkF1lAa3XJscfHpLuzAtxZG_dtDASU4tadhG3LhfeFCChK89oB7d4SnGwsBd0YKxlexWgxFKbBhw2XGuGMfoI48gVd0xRXuvjePafgeHBQOqBU9rnk11Q7RaNL3l9_dxd8KoNP5Q4w/s320/jan+2013+001.jpg" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">the 10 blocks I won</td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
The project stalled due to trying to decide what fabrics and setting to best set off these blocks.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_gsBnKArHYNCc3kOf5roX6YSGPZeHab-invOa6bV3OEcAFrBXOpFXB7mU65pQI4L8stDfJYlxFL1FYCm-CcdYTyFOWzMryV8U9p613f6cpbQatEalLPWj0xkaKS17GfY_iK7VngIrQxY/s1600/jan+2013+002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_gsBnKArHYNCc3kOf5roX6YSGPZeHab-invOa6bV3OEcAFrBXOpFXB7mU65pQI4L8stDfJYlxFL1FYCm-CcdYTyFOWzMryV8U9p613f6cpbQatEalLPWj0xkaKS17GfY_iK7VngIrQxY/s320/jan+2013+002.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This is the first arrangement</td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
But my friend, and mentor, Maria suggested putting cream sashing to give the top a more modern look. <br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">cream sashing and scrappy cornerstones</td></tr>

I had made 2 extra blocks but used the same background fabric which was very busy...so made yet another with a quieter background. I started this week to sew the sashing to the blocks and began assembling rows.<br />

Last year I finally won the lottery! The Internet group I belong to, has a monthly lottery block contest and I won so here are the blocks laid out for me to photograph and send the photo to our list mom (she can be such a nag!)( actually she is a darling) and for me to decide how I am going to turn this into a quilt. I had bought TB fabric to use but then came the news that the designer is retiring so I've been buying as much as I can afford from a shop I know off in Melbourne. Unfortunately I haven't found all the perfect fabrics. Today I used 2 of the rejects to make a further 2 album stars to bring the block total to 12.<br />

The other thing I did this weekend is sign up for the Crafsty BOM 2013. This is a photo of the 4 off center log cabin blocks I made. I like the batiks I used but will have to be very careful of value when it comes to making the other blocks, some of the blocks require very strong contrast to work....we will see how it goes.<br />

Eureka Patchwork ( <a href="http://eurekapatchwork.com.au/">http://eurekapatchwork.com.au/</a> hosted Leesa Chandler (<a href="http://www.leesachandlerdesigns.com/">http://www.leesachandlerdesigns.com/</a>) who gave a great talk about how, why, when, where and who of her adventures into the world of fabric design for Robert Kaufman. Not only did we see some of her stunning quilts and bags, but we were treated to a sneak peak of her new culture club fabric range 'Anastasia' which will be presented to the Australian quilt market this week.<br />

My 50th post snuck up on me and passed me by.....but I still want to share!<br />
I have a $50AUD gift voucher for Gail's Patchwork emporium to giveaway.<br />
<br />
Gail's home and shop burnt down earlier this year, and she and her husband have been very busy rebuilding and using their 'shed' as a temporary home for the shop. They hope to re-open the shop the first week of October in the refurbished building. Gail is a local Ballarat resident and business owner, and my giveaway is a way of helping her. Her website is<a href="http://www.gailspatchwork.com.au/"> http://www.gailspatchwork.com.au</a><br />

if you would like to win this....<br />
please leave a comment telling me which post you liked the most.. Winner will be announced on Monday the 3rd of September 2012. So you have all week to enter.<br />

Then the race was on!<br />
First lap had a few crashes and took 50 minutes, due to tangles, bobbin run out and discovering that I had sewn the initial long strip not right sides together.<br />
<br />

The secret is out now and Jennifer from http://findingmywayintexas.blogspot.com has openned her parcel.<br />
<a href="http://findingmywayintexas.blogspot.com"></a><br />
I chose to make her a small little tote bag based on black and white fabrics becuase I read a post on her blog about a monogramed wall decor she made. So I hope I got the colour choices right! The bag is a scaled down pattern from Sentimental Stitches. here is a link to the pattern http://sentimentalstitches.net/free-stuff/schlep-bag/<br />
That sized pattern made a big shopping bag or beach bag. So my squares where 4 1/2 inches, the triangles cross cut from 2 5 inch suares, while the handles were 7 inches long by about 1 and 1/2 inches.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWmlTQ985lOOebLO1i4o3k0HPGQJ3Wgif8i7HqBXAeSnnNtAtGJPTY1wvR0PqBh_7x6tVcsT3eFPVXkfcX9OolhkRWV14AnkHlfgEJwN4ewCKTQKgOEkGnP-N7qMeOUATlvo0CxcO0flc/s1600/blog+photos+116.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="320" width="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWmlTQ985lOOebLO1i4o3k0HPGQJ3Wgif8i7HqBXAeSnnNtAtGJPTY1wvR0PqBh_7x6tVcsT3eFPVXkfcX9OolhkRWV14AnkHlfgEJwN4ewCKTQKgOEkGnP-N7qMeOUATlvo0CxcO0flc/s320/blog+photos+116.jpg" /></a></div><br />
The flower is very easy to do. First make a simple template of a petal, but leave the bottom long and straight at the bottom. See to the right side of next photo.<br />
Next take a rectangle of fabric and fold it right sides together, on the wrong side draw 6 petal shapes. Then sew with a tight stitch around the heavy line twice. Cut out each petal about 1/8 of and inch from sewing line. Turn right side out. Slip stitch end shut. Then taking a large "crowbar" of a needle sew them together and put a button in the center and attach to bag.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh89TREsPjBtL1myPhz2Q1-PFr8flo5mgcwLyzbALgF_l6uYo8ry7zhip9qHV8miZsQ67V4M_WCd0Yxaz6HVqrs3oqXyyqW2nu_N8otX0zLi2ZgaUS9PMZ6ioyWgnSZ8MxDsNgoQ76Fw2I/s1600/blog+photos+117.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="240" width="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh89TREsPjBtL1myPhz2Q1-PFr8flo5mgcwLyzbALgF_l6uYo8ry7zhip9qHV8miZsQ67V4M_WCd0Yxaz6HVqrs3oqXyyqW2nu_N8otX0zLi2ZgaUS9PMZ6ioyWgnSZ8MxDsNgoQ76Fw2I/s320/blog+photos+117.jpg" /></a></div><br />
Next came some more blog visiting to Jennifer, to get some inspiration for her "Crazy for you " mini wall hanging. She is a very talented photograher so I thought a vintage camera and some black and white photos might do the trick. However I am very aware that people have strong reactions to crazy patchwork, so I was nervous about making this for her. Here is the starting block with selected possible embellishments.<br />

Then I got to work and stitched those seams. However I do not cover every seam, as I like to make wavy fronds and put curves in with lace and beads. I also like to have a selection of "big, medium, small and tiny" in the work to give it more interest. The big were the silk images, mediums were the lace and frond embriodery. Small was the rest, and tiny was the rose tucked behind an ear.<br />
Here is some detailed photos.<br />

I've left some blank spaces for Jennifer to add her own special beads, lace, buttons or special "broken but not out" jewellery.<br />
<br />
Take some time to visit Jennifer and get to know this lovely lady, I know that you will like her as much as I do.<br />
<br />
Love Karenkarenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05015037008180726504noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6734127190490139682.post-17309227800599668312012-04-07T00:55:00.001-07:002012-04-07T18:47:05.461-07:00Shh its on its way, but the sender is still a secret!I've been working on my Covert Round Robin Project.....so I have been busy!<br />
First up was a little blog visiting so that I could get "in touch" with the person who will receive my swap gift...well actually it was a bit of detective work. So that you get to share in the detective side of things, today's post will have clues as to who my gift is on its way to.<br />
I only hope that one of her cute journal covers comes my way!<br />
<br />
But back to what I made...the first idea came quickly and was inspired by a recent home decor project that she made...this is it<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdXA-dEIR3BZPB7L4cTC5XhvFJTLJzbdKYMGV6Jf8ErDm5P1JpffUifSoINhnlQ2OGHeDvJnCDbIP9ZIpfwF3PH2b4RK7IvhCA7ZZunVAQw51N5cbpeHbIDC4Xxm-gwIcSIeo1TbuSWPU/s1600/blog+photos+116.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdXA-dEIR3BZPB7L4cTC5XhvFJTLJzbdKYMGV6Jf8ErDm5P1JpffUifSoINhnlQ2OGHeDvJnCDbIP9ZIpfwF3PH2b4RK7IvhCA7ZZunVAQw51N5cbpeHbIDC4Xxm-gwIcSIeo1TbuSWPU/s320/blog+photos+116.jpg" width="240" /></a></div> I hope she likes it!<br />
Then because crazy patchwork is my thing...I made a tiny wall hanging to express both myself and hopefully something about her!<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><i>However...not everybody likes crazy patchwork! </i></span> <br />
So that's why I made the bag.<br />
Here is the wall hanging. Pay attention because there are clues!<br />

This is my Christmas navitiy<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9sF0IEukWcraCt4ZgeSVmHn81oAwII_U99AfZ-aGxAxSnSD0w1_sH6bENU3g5eMJi3KMnChfUbsBXhXJrthBztgKDSRGSZxFKrSD2tPDJ8ts8IsL9JXcC8QJrYeSs97vmpqpJSmXVXXw/s1600/blog+photos+062.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9sF0IEukWcraCt4ZgeSVmHn81oAwII_U99AfZ-aGxAxSnSD0w1_sH6bENU3g5eMJi3KMnChfUbsBXhXJrthBztgKDSRGSZxFKrSD2tPDJ8ts8IsL9JXcC8QJrYeSs97vmpqpJSmXVXXw/s320/blog+photos+062.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I've been part of the Vingatge christmas BOM from Shabby Fabrics, so I decided to start working on them. The pattern kit includes a precloloured fabric to stitch but I prefered to stitch on the backing fabric so that it toned in with my Nativity set. I've stitched these so far...<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7c0p72vP3F84zvfEpeROQZzmarJonthc9TqmfyJnN-ycZerkD2XjzENer8dmaKVqzcFHdeZprLA5cJtfg8KsLkBbhozphgmWyEkK5I2yr2aVNc7ELy1aJDBkOkmqtNkAR_RWYXfQcg80/s1600/blog+photos+063.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7c0p72vP3F84zvfEpeROQZzmarJonthc9TqmfyJnN-ycZerkD2XjzENer8dmaKVqzcFHdeZprLA5cJtfg8KsLkBbhozphgmWyEkK5I2yr2aVNc7ELy1aJDBkOkmqtNkAR_RWYXfQcg80/s320/blog+photos+063.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">2 down 18 to go !</td></tr>
</tbody></table>Then I decided that I just had to have a neutral fabric bag to put my stitching supplies for this project in. This is the first bag I made<br />
<span id="goog_225434677"></span><span id="goog_225434678"></span><br />
It was tooo big..so I made it smaller....<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLZiYDmlMRWlI8tNu18jTZScjGqYi0t6-Xl6GpnP8y1bC1hkWE3sfmPooAca0lcmSCP5QucGZi5LD2WCOZFLOF-cvgtwLBZ6D7hGpY78NOwooseI-xftAGDWRmqHxZrdRgtctlaidEFvQ/s1600/blog+photos+078.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLZiYDmlMRWlI8tNu18jTZScjGqYi0t6-Xl6GpnP8y1bC1hkWE3sfmPooAca0lcmSCP5QucGZi5LD2WCOZFLOF-cvgtwLBZ6D7hGpY78NOwooseI-xftAGDWRmqHxZrdRgtctlaidEFvQ/s320/blog+photos+078.jpg" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">My new beach bag!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>This one was just right!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjd91POy4grmZAqNZHES29Pa0mLKbzWxMj4yvHiGziCNyJxyJ40a2Hm5pVfoeqq7vgoyGbBlJBcP6sBnXhO-LUdSJuj_yDHYFbgquwcN7Ao7ve4M0BQUG61nM2GV7u42BXUrA-i_sxktec/s1600/blog+photos+079.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjd91POy4grmZAqNZHES29Pa0mLKbzWxMj4yvHiGziCNyJxyJ40a2Hm5pVfoeqq7vgoyGbBlJBcP6sBnXhO-LUdSJuj_yDHYFbgquwcN7Ao7ve4M0BQUG61nM2GV7u42BXUrA-i_sxktec/s320/blog+photos+079.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br />
Then I had to have a needlecase to match......<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-SGCBfE-6FTK3YbO98iu_98KcZ5Kar70ntquYgRUDZQyXFqUw4XxZAUQaeJHnkv-YwsxrbmhRQ8tZCZw5i1Fsk9XWFFn_lGqTCeFre3VtFRLxvbrts8Bhy4j0v18C08OLkrXH2v1PvUI/s1600/blog+photos+080.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-SGCBfE-6FTK3YbO98iu_98KcZ5Kar70ntquYgRUDZQyXFqUw4XxZAUQaeJHnkv-YwsxrbmhRQ8tZCZw5i1Fsk9XWFFn_lGqTCeFre3VtFRLxvbrts8Bhy4j0v18C08OLkrXH2v1PvUI/s320/blog+photos+080.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Now I have practised 2 little quick items for my Thimbleberry lovers yahoo groups next secret santa swap...<br />
speaking of which..this was 2011 secret santa parcel under my Christmas tree...thanks ever so much...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfxPy1S6ng9HEZy_9Ad8UieMFG3mi6aCt8_13CNVbeEfOhUdzTj8sWgI6mm_sRqvEGxo_8y02yV17mh5Q0LNpGeX4O0b-rcyHoIYQdwKZDnk4zCcqNpJxCS_2AR_J6wL0lxu-In4ZNCsE/s1600/blog+photos+084.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfxPy1S6ng9HEZy_9Ad8UieMFG3mi6aCt8_13CNVbeEfOhUdzTj8sWgI6mm_sRqvEGxo_8y02yV17mh5Q0LNpGeX4O0b-rcyHoIYQdwKZDnk4zCcqNpJxCS_2AR_J6wL0lxu-In4ZNCsE/s320/blog+photos+084.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Then I swapped a Crazy patchwork boot. This was mine, and I was very touched that the hostess of this swap ended up with my boot. Her family choose the one they think she would like out of the boots before they are sent on the way.<br />

It was along the lines of "what a great idea, I really wish I could do that too.....................(I have listed and linked everybody's blogs at the end)<br />
<br />
Then, like a dream come true " I was in a round robin" entitled "Fools Gold" with 2 of my crazy patchwork heroes.....once I got over the shock.....panic set in. I kept on panic mode for a few days and then sorted myself out. Research was going to be my saving grace. So I hit the engine and kept on looking.<br />
<br />
Finally I started making my blocks because I had an "idea" I used the "the year of the Dragon" as my basic starting point, and then found out that 2012 was also the 6 year cycle of " the water Dragon" which will tone done the nastier side effects of the fire dragon! I chose mainly batiks because I thought that they would allow alot of blending effects. I did 3 hot coloured blocks and 3 cool coloured blocks.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCn50rgyZXWB7Vn_MOwtrQDCE4Hh-gVwlP-5mgQ3zJKr9e4KQxs7GLQmZjo2Jx2X0IjxZEksTEmL9aaTCoc26zrP3P_5_Nd7pjfVK_mjLzyW8frIqAQgjFusLuXn9odbc1kT3n3c0dL9g/s1600/blog+photos+060.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCn50rgyZXWB7Vn_MOwtrQDCE4Hh-gVwlP-5mgQ3zJKr9e4KQxs7GLQmZjo2Jx2X0IjxZEksTEmL9aaTCoc26zrP3P_5_Nd7pjfVK_mjLzyW8frIqAQgjFusLuXn9odbc1kT3n3c0dL9g/s320/blog+photos+060.jpg" width="320" /></a></div> So they have been sent on to Cathy!<br />
Arlene's blocks arrived early. Thank you Arlene, because of her I worked out how to do the notebook that accompanies the blocks. Unfortunately , Madeline, my darling daughter, ( I have to remind myself!) emptied the black and most of the coloured ink in my printer. I was left with handwriting my notebook and was able to use my draft computer copy for the front cover. I think every one will know that this is definitely my first round robin! Out of the 6 blocks I chose this one to DYOB ( do your own block)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsnDqj51tPYVbqz-BGKDuUyRtIm0id4E_nq1cPj1jWi4AU1jE5NJryvqelNK5dfb-spZed6AqaTJlZz2xWk5HUAJ6-6BJjpQyBE0XgpkkqFPg0v4nbeAvN7ojhdVO-4gAuk6vOedB5wt0/s1600/blog+photos+068.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsnDqj51tPYVbqz-BGKDuUyRtIm0id4E_nq1cPj1jWi4AU1jE5NJryvqelNK5dfb-spZed6AqaTJlZz2xWk5HUAJ6-6BJjpQyBE0XgpkkqFPg0v4nbeAvN7ojhdVO-4gAuk6vOedB5wt0/s320/blog+photos+068.jpg" width="320" /></a></div> I chose it for its simplicity and strong large shapes. I have decided to do my "military" inspired cuff in gold leaves in one corner. This will be my 'signature" for this round robin. Then as Arlene likes flowers, I have echoed the wavy curve in her print fabric in my stem and have started on some stylized flowers and leaves.<br />
I was very grateful that I had Pat Winter's magazine "Crazy Quilt Gatherings" issue 2 2011 for the articles by Cathy Kizerian and Gerry Kruger on round robins, as well as Pats " Embellishing - where to begin".<br />
So I have spent some time looking at Arlene's blog to get a 'feel' for her and her work, but I have kept in mind Gerry's advice for the first person in a RR to be conservative. So my individual element is the military cuff. I will stick to the flower vine. I am thinking that as the other blocks have a fabric with perfume bottles and 2 of the blocks are fan shaped, that they are screaming Paris to me. So I hope to include a fan, the Eiffel tower, a perfume bottle and a bow.....maybe! I know Gerry loves to add a bird and I love embroidering peacocks, so I will try to sneak in a peacock. However this is all subject to change!!!! See what I have done below!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOTAQByCi4TRPTd23eU2uY9wREZcaGxg5qf3q4K7U2BZTA3vnqGJecwsThaKtDZu70uG5e7d6_zSBbnRM6dES1bJE1n8uOFtO4LkI8aEKoX0pXgrII7yE7aizfQfARjW_DrUH7wFcPi1A/s1600/blog+photos+073.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOTAQByCi4TRPTd23eU2uY9wREZcaGxg5qf3q4K7U2BZTA3vnqGJecwsThaKtDZu70uG5e7d6_zSBbnRM6dES1bJE1n8uOFtO4LkI8aEKoX0pXgrII7yE7aizfQfARjW_DrUH7wFcPi1A/s320/blog+photos+073.jpg" width="320" /></a></div> I hope Arlene Likes it!!!!<br />

<br />
I started today looking for my ezi angle ruler...the one that I checked was in my ruler basket when I was getting ready for Bonnie ...so where is it now? I still have no idea!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUJjciYjBG2uaHQN2npUcw8HQur8B2XUgsF7fqMvAc_dxyuoFthg1ZEz-_t_ccT5OIC9zCbExMJBErBZXG8g_Yq8YRBnsa6YhrhyZCw6JPVsD-HBMLnvgvKJSh58rxOpyeuVGzbCGIRCI/s1600/blog+photos+048.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUJjciYjBG2uaHQN2npUcw8HQur8B2XUgsF7fqMvAc_dxyuoFthg1ZEz-_t_ccT5OIC9zCbExMJBErBZXG8g_Yq8YRBnsa6YhrhyZCw6JPVsD-HBMLnvgvKJSh58rxOpyeuVGzbCGIRCI/s320/blog+photos+048.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>So remembering rule number one...I got busy and did more hourglass blocks. Then I did the math and added 7/8 and made one 2 inch square! Don't tell me how many more to go!<br />
<br />
When I find my ruler in "the safe place" I am going to paint the said safe place something fluroescent and label it "The Safe Place"! Check out what everybody else is doing at <a href="http://quiltville.blogspot.com/">http://quiltville.blogspot.com/</a><br />

Today was Quiltville day, I am with Orca Bay!<br />
Bonnie Hunter of <span style="color: blue;">Quiltville <span style="color: black;">is doing this mystery quilt.</span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="color: black;"><br />
</span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="color: black;">This is not Orca Bay!</span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="color: black;"><br />
</span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="color: black;">This is a backing for Carolina Christmas which I did with Bonnie ....err 2 years ago....and yes the quilt is not finished!</span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="color: black;"><br />
</span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="color: black;">I did not have enough backing fabric, and had left over pieces so I had an idea!</span></span><br />
<br />
My idea was to use the leftovers to create a pattern of the mystery on the back!<br />
<br />
I am not following instructions well this time round and have started my collection for use as part of the backing from week one.<br />
<br />
Here is week one and the boo boos....only some...I'm not showing the pile!<br />
<br />

Now for this week! Stringing the blues.....<br />
