Orca Bay part 5
Not that I think that Bonnie of Quiltville has this in mind...I would definetely not try to guess.....the Christmas carols are starting to reberverate even in the quiet space of my sewing room.
I have managed since last week to get 150 hourglass blocks from part one done..and some some present shopping. It still is not too late to join in click here. Or to get straight to the mystery go to the link below.

Rule 1
Orca Bay Part 3!
I started today looking for my ezi angle ruler...the one that I checked was in my ruler basket when I was getting ready for Bonnie ...so where is it now? I still have no idea!
So remembering rule number one...I got busy and did more hourglass blocks. Then I did the math and added 7/8 and made one 2 inch square! Don't tell me how many more to go!
When I find my ruler in "the safe place" I am going to paint the said safe place something fluroescent and label it "The Safe Place"! Check out what everybody else is doing at http://quiltville.blogspot.com/

ORCA BAY
Today was Quiltville day, I am with Orca Bay!
Bonnie Hunter of Quiltville is doing this mystery quilt.
This is not Orca Bay!
This is a backing for Carolina Christmas which I did with Bonnie ....err 2 years ago....and yes the quilt is not finished!
I did not have enough backing fabric, and had left over pieces so I had an idea!
My idea was to use the leftovers to create a pattern of the mystery on the back!
I am not following instructions well this time round and have started my collection for use as part of the backing from week one.
Here is week one and the boo boos....only some...I'm not showing the pile!
Here is the shoe box with the 30 or so hourglass blocks I finished that week .
Now for this week! Stringing the blues.....
I made sure the instructions were very close at hand, and achieved 12 little blues ready to go and on display on my design wall. Bonnie was right, blue strings seem to be never ending!

A quiet time
guess what arrived in the mail this week
Apart from a minor gasp as I read the first page.......it was a relaxing before bed read.
I've been tidying up and re-sorting the sewing room..and I've found the culprit of all the mess. Here is the villain exposed......and removed from my sewing space!
The Ironing Basket!
Mischief pretended that she was more interested in what was going on in the garden, but was checking out all of my spools while I was sorting out my thread drawer....see it half filled .....and tidy!
I managed to get a design wall happening, something I've been promising myself !
This is the design wall with the UFO I am working on in Monday's sewing class.
But this weekend Orca Bay is starting and here is my black, and neutrals ready to go. The reds are all scraps and so are some of the blues. You can join in here.
That's all for now. Regards karen

Crumb Along 2 Catching up
Got back to my crumbs over the week end. Remember my first block?
I made mine a rectangle...I went back and re-read the instructions and since Jo's block are 6 inches I decided to make this a 12 inch block...
I liked this more.
then got cracking on my stars and hearts....
Then I made a big heart, which was fine until I got to the last triangle and didn't have a big enough piece....so I added a bit so that I could square it up.....I liked that so much .....I did it to all of the corners.
then I thought again and wondered if I should make a 12 inch block out of these?
So, that is where I ended today! My quilt may just turn out to be a wonky crumb sampler!
Now I have resisted the urge to see what everyone else has done.......just so I could develop my own quilt.....but I can't fight it any longer! I'm off to visit everyone else to see what they have been up to!

The Crazy quilt
Today I've set myself the goal of doing an hour a day on this quilt, as I want it finished by March 2012. I've decided not to exhibit it at our local group show next weekend. As part of my $30 a day for 30 days process I had a small find......this is a book I bought for $2 at a community market today.....
This is how I used it . The flowers took an hour to do.....but then learning anything new takes time!
Three agapantus heads on a pink background!
check out my day here http://whatwouldmartha-karen.blogspot.com/

Bay to birdwood 2011-Fashion highlights
This was Di, she came complete with entourage and paparazzi!
Sleek and sophisticated, definitely loved those stripes.
Another classy, classic look.
Details count, he has got points for "the flair"
But he should have lost "the hair"
Ask yourself....do wigs..ever...work?
But polka dots in spring sunshine always do!
the young ones discovering the joys of polyester.....
were the definitely the bold and the beautiful!
matching hats and shoes rules still applied....
though some just ......
moved on....to 1977
and here is Victoria in her platforms and age appropriate dress...while her mother....
had visions of 1975 and took Jackie as her style guide. I found a cute little Italian outfit at Salvo(tori's) and had the headscarf and big big glasses.......
not to mention the glomesh bag..but I ended up looking like Princess Margret minus Roddy! And not a Greek island in sight.

Finally Got there!
Yesterday, Fred and I got to go to the Barossa Farmer's Market, something we have always wanted to do after seeing the ABC show "The cook and the chef". It was good! Lovely produce, lots of tastings to tempt you and a great atmosphere. You just wanted to load up your picnic basket and head off to somewhere scenic to enjoy life.
Here is what I bought back for the girls. The most adorable cupcakes. Recognise Shaun the sheep? The cute little dragon was too good to eat!
which was right outside the Barossa quilt cottage!
